Dates: April 7, 14, 21 & 28, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm 

*** Please note this is a weekly series class, with four days total **

In this four week course students will acquire a working knowledge of the basic metalworking techniques, such as sawing, soldering, piercing, sanding, forming, texturing and finishing. Students will be familiarized with basic studio tools for working with fine metals, and will be encouraged to explore their creativity while applying new skills to a unique, wearable art form. Shop set up and shop safety will be ongoing topics. Students will have the opportunity to design and make several projects of their choice.


April 7th: Introduction to the studio, sawing/piercing, drilling, filing, sanding

April 14th: Cold connections, rivets, tabs, chasing/stamping, roller printing

April 21st: Annealing, Soldering, forming

April 28th: Polishing, finishing, patinas, sealants

Kit or materials fee (payable to instructor at start of class): $45, includes metal: 20 gauge copper, 20 gauge brass; silver solder: easy/med/hard; sand paper: 320/400/600, saw blades: a variety of sizes

Kristal Romano is a studio artist, jeweler, and metalsmith recently relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, coming from North Adams, Massachusetts where she was awarded a grant through Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA). She earned her MFA at Montclair State University and her BFA at Kutztown University. She taught as an adjunct professor of Metalwork/Jewelry and Sculpture at Montclair State University and has taught at the Newark Museum and Peters Valley School of Craft.  She has worked as a freelance jeweler, gallery assistant for Gallery Loupe in Montclair, NJ, and as a full time bench jeweler for the designer jewelry company, Ten Thousand Things in New York City. Kristal has also been the Artist Fellow/Studio Manager for Peters Valley School of Craft Fine Metals Studio. 


Romano’s artwork has been published in Art Jewelry, Ornament, and Niche magazines and exhibited nationally, including NYC, and SNAG.
